10 spices and products that can diversify the taste of coffee

Coffee snobs are convinced that you can't add anything to the drink other than coffee and water, otherwise you'll ruin the taste. If you're not one of them, we encourage you to experiment. Coffee is often afraid to be combined with anything other than the traditional cinnamon, chocolate, and cream, but this drink is no less versatile than tea. We'll tell you what spices or products you can add to your morning cup of coffee to make it even healthier and diversify its taste.
Cardamom
Adding cardamom to coffee is a tradition in Arab culture. It is soothing, good for the stomach, and refreshing, so you can drink coffee with it even in the heat. Cardamom has a pronounced taste, so you only need a small amount: a pinch the size of 1/4 teaspoon per serving of coffee. Add the spice to the coffee before brewing, and then prepare the drink in the usual way for you.
Black pepper
We are talking about allspice peas – it has antiseptic properties, warms and gives the drink a special aroma. One or two peas are enough. They can be added either to the Turk with coffee, or to the finished drink while it is hot. In the second case, let the coffee brew for a while, and then remove the pepper.
Lemon or orange zest
Citrus fruits are good not only for tea. You should not put the usual lemon or orange slices in coffee. It is better to grind the zest, mix with coffee powder, and then brew it like a regular drink.
Bay leaf
Bay leaf will give coffee a pleasant spicy aroma. If you do not overdo it with the amount, this spice will not give any unpleasant taste, one small leaf per cup of drink is enough.
Bay leaves should be added as soon as you remove the coffee from the heat or pour boiling water over it. Let it sit in the hot drink for a while, and when you feel that it has released its aroma, remove it from the cup.
It is important that the bay leaf is stored properly and is fresh. It should not be used if the spice has been lying around for more than a year – it may develop an unpleasant aftertaste or, conversely, lose any aroma.
Honey
Honey in coffee is a great substitute for sugar. It is best to combine it with almond milk and cinnamon. Add honey to the finished drink, otherwise it will lose some of its beneficial properties during brewing.
Nutmeg
Nutmeg will make your morning coffee even more invigorating. It warms, adds spice to the drink, and also stimulates brain activity. You should add nutmeg very carefully, a small pinch is enough, otherwise the coffee will be bitter. To definitely soften the spice of the nut and the bitterness of the coffee, add kosovo or any other favorite milk.
Chia seeds
Adaptogen fans will love this recipe for coffee with chia seeds. This superfood is often used in healthy desserts, but it is also quite suitable for drinks.
Chia seeds have almost no taste, so the main thing about them is their benefits. Before adding them to food and drinks, they are pre-soaked for at least 10 minutes to make them more jelly-like.
Another adaptogen, this time a fragrant one, that can be added to coffee with chia seeds is a sprig of rosemary.
Egg yolk
Egg yolk is added to Turkish coffee – it replaces other options for a creamy base: milk, cream, ice cream. Such coffee turns out thick, rich and very delicate in taste.
The yolk beaten with sugar should be added to boiling coffee, and the drink should be immediately removed from the heat – the yolk should not boil, but remain liquid, like heavy cream.
Salt
Some gourmets add a little salt to coffee to remove bitterness and reveal the taste of the drink in a new way. Salt should be put in the Turk immediately together with the coffee and sugar before brewing. There should be very little of it, just to neutralize the bitterness, and not make the drink salty. You should almost feel the salt when drinking.
Lavender
Lavender coffee is a popular drink in modern coffee shops, but it is easy to make it yourself. To do this, you just need to add a few dried flowers to your coffee, pour water over it, and brew as usual. Like any other spice, there should be very little lavender, otherwise it will spoil the taste, not diversify it.
Coffee with lavender can be either milky or black.
