3 herbal teas that help slow down the aging process

A new study has found that drinking three herbal teas can help slow down the aging process.

When it comes to staying healthy, many of us are aware that our diet can make a difference. Certain foods can increase the risk of potentially dangerous conditions, such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. A new study has found that the drinks may have an effect.

Rooibos, hibiscus, and mate may reduce oxidative stress—an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in your body—that is linked to aging and age-related diseases.

Aging is characterized by a temporary decline in physiological capacity, and oxidative stress is a hallmark of aging and age-related disorders.

This oxidative state is associated with a decrease in effective cellular repair mechanisms, increased post-translational glycation of proteins, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neurodegeneration, to name a few markers that contribute to the establishment of age-related reductions in oxidation or redox imbalance.

Although this is a natural process, aging can occur more quickly in some people due to free radical damage to the body's cells, ineffective cell repair, brain cell degeneration, and glycation, where the body's proteins become saturated with sugars. These are then exacerbated by lifestyle factors such as smoking, being overweight and eating an unhealthy diet.

Rooibos tea is made from leaves that grow in South Africa and is also known as red tea.

Hibiscus tea also comes from Africa.

Yate tea is made from the yerba mate plant, a relative of holly, and is most commonly consumed in South America.
