6 early symptoms of thyroid cancer you need to know and not miss

The earlier the treatment begins, the greater the chances of success.

Doctors consider thyroid cancer to be one of the safest types of the disease, as it most often responds well to treatment and in most cases is amenable to therapy. But it is worth remembering that, as in the case of other types of malignant tumors, the success of thyroid cancer treatment depends greatly on the time of detection of the disease. Most often, the tumor is detected by chance, during an ultrasound or MRI of the thyroid for a completely different reason. Meanwhile, there are at least six early signs of the disease that should not be ignored.

Neck lump

Most often, men find a lump while shaving, and women – while applying makeup. It is worth remembering that in 90% of cases, all thyroid neoplasms are benign, but they still need to be checked. And, of course, monitor their development, regularly doing ultrasound and other tests if necessary.

Hoarse voice

The recurrent laryngeal nerve, which controls the muscles responsible for the work of the vocal cords, is located directly behind the thyroid gland. In some cases, a tumor can extend beyond the thyroid gland and compress or damage the nerve, which affects the voice. So if you suddenly become hoarse for no particular reason, be sure to consult a doctor.

Persistent cough

The main sign that will help distinguish a “cold” cough from a symptom of thyroid cancer is the absence of phlegm and fever. This cough is in no way associated with or viral infectious diseases and is actually the body’s response to the neoplasm, which it is thus trying to expel. Consult a doctor if you can’t get rid of the cough!

Difficulty swallowing

This is one of the most threatening signs, as it may indicate that the cancer is aggressive. In addition, difficulty swallowing can be a sign of laryngeal cancer, so consult a doctor as soon as possible!

Sore throat

In most cases, a neoplasm in the thyroid gland cannot be felt, but in rare cases, the nodes can cause pain. Most often, the pain is felt in the front of the neck and spreads across the entire width, sometimes even reaching the ears.

Difficulty breathing

Another sign of a thyroid tumor is difficulty breathing. It is caused by only one form of thyroid cancer – anaplastic, in which the tumor grows very quickly. See a doctor!
