7 habits you should give up if you want to live a really long life

It's time to get rid of bad habits!

Not only health depends on the way life, but also life expectancy. Of course, it is unlikely that proper nutrition and activity will protect you from an accident (although who knows?), but they can reduce the risk of developing dangerous and potentially fatal diseases. So take inventory of your habits – and mercilessly get rid of all the dangerous and harmful ones!

Eating at night

The habit of looking into the refrigerator in the middle of the night and chewing something tasty (and often harmful) is dangerous not only for your figure, but also for your health and even life. First, such late-night snacks cause dangerous spikes in glucose and affect insulin tolerance, which can significantly increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Secondly, eating at night increases the level of triglycerides in the blood — dangerous fats that increase the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

Go to bed late

Every time you sacrifice sleep for another episode of your favorite movie or a glass of wine with friends, you are putting your health at risk. Lack of sleep is extremely harmful, chronic lack of night rest increases the risk of developing various diseases, from heart disease to cancer. In addition, the loss of concentration after a sleepless night can be dangerous if you drive a car or work with dangerous equipment.

Abusing salt

Almost 10% of all deaths related to dietary disorders are due to excessive salt consumption. Moreover, it is the excess or lack of salt in the diet that is responsible for 45% of all deaths caused by heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. Control the level of salt in your diet – your life literally depends on it.

Not washing your hands

We have heard so often the call to wash our hands after returning from the street, before eating, after visiting the toilet, that we often do not perceive it as something truly important, and very in vain. Because, whatever one may say, the world around us is still full of really dangerous microbes – and washing your hands remains the simplest and most reliable way to protect your health every day. Do not neglect it!

Not using dental floss

You may be surprised, but regular flossing can increase your life expectancy by six years. The fact is that flossing helps fight gum disease and inflammation — and thereby prevent dangerous bacteria from entering the bloodstream, which can trigger the development of dangerous diseases. So take care of the health of your teeth and gums — not only your dazzling smile depends on them!

Not using a condom

Using a condom is still the most reliable way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. And this is especially important now, when Ukraine and neighboring countries are experiencing a high increase in new HIV cases. Do not risk your health and life, do not succumb to tricks and persuasions – use a condom during sexual intercourse, including in long-term relationships.

Skipping breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it should never be skipped. Studies confirm the connection between regularly skipping breakfast and an increased risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, a hearty breakfast helps us feel full throughout the day and avoid unhealthy snacks – and this is beneficial not only for health, but also for the figure.
