A dermatologist spoke about the harm of the popular balm “Zirka”

The doctor explained why this folk remedy for Ukrainians is dangerous to health.

Probably, everyone in their family medicine cabinet had or has “Zirka” balm, which our parents and grandmothers used for all occasions. Even after several decades, people continue to use it everywhere, as they trust this drug.

The famous balm comes from Vietnam. It is known to Ukrainians under the name “Golden Star”. It appeared in the USSR in the early 1980s. Everyone knows from childhood how difficult it was to open the lid and what a pungent smell this balm has.

– People always and everywhere use it, considering it a universal remedy. But they don't even suspect that you shouldn't do this, – said dermatologist Olga Gavrikova.

The doctor also warned that the balm should not be applied to mucous membranes, cuts, wounds and injured areas. The balm can only increase inflammation, swelling and bleeding and cause serious harm. In addition, it can cause significant skin irritation and exacerbate chronic diseases.

The “Zirka” balm is categorically contraindicated:

• Children under two years old;
• Pregnant women;
• Allergic to any of the components of the drug.
