A somnologist has named the non-obvious causes of severe daytime sleepiness

Among the non-obvious causes of severe daytime sleepiness, which occurs even after an eight-hour night's rest, the doctor named snoring, restless legs syndrome, and biological characteristics of the body.

The doctor named common but non-obvious causes of daytime sleepiness.

Body. According to the somnologist, some people physiologically need to sleep more than the accepted norm – from 9 to 11 hours. Sleeping for eight hours, they experience the characteristic negative symptoms of sleep deprivation: lethargy, difficulty concentrating, poor immunity. What exactly causes this is unknown, but this feature is innate: the doctor noted that “nature played a little joke on such people”.

Snoring. It may not be obvious to a person that his poor health and “fog” in the head are a consequence of snoring. The doctor noted that snoring provokes breathing stops during sleep, due to which the human brain regularly wakes up during the night.

Restless legs syndrome. This neurological disorder is characterized by an uncontrollable desire to move the limbs. The somnologist emphasized: even if a person with such a syndrome falls asleep, he may experience movements of the legs, sometimes of the hands, which do not allow the brain to relax.

Deficiency of substances. Another non-obvious cause of severe daytime drowsiness, fatigue, and fatigue, the somnologist called a lack of iron in the body, as well as a deficiency of vitamin D and B vitamins.

The doctor gave advice: if daytime drowsiness is observed for a long time and is felt despite sufficient rest, you should consult a specialist. This disorder can be a symptom of a large number of diseases.
