Can you eat food with an expired expiration date?

Experts have said that we can safely eat green potatoes and moldy bread. Thus, the amount of food thrown away will be much reduced.

Egg.Thanks to their protective shell, eggs can stay fresh for months without even needing to be refrigerated. In many cases, eggs remain safe for 3-4 weeks after the expiration date on the package. There is an easy way to check this safety. Place the eggs in a container of water. If they sink, they are safe to eat; if they float, they have air in them and should be thrown away.

Beef. The shelf life of meat depends on its type. It can last a very long time in the freezer. Vacuum-packed meat has a particularly long shelf life, as it is deprived of air, which brings germs with it.

Chicken fillet. Even when stored in the refrigerator, chicken fillet should not be eaten later than a day after the expiration of the established shelf life. Raw chicken can contain many bacteria, including campylobacter and salmonella, which multiply to dangerous levels during prolonged storage.

Cheese cheddar.Hard cheeses are safe to eat for up to 6 weeks after their expiration date if they are kept in the refrigerator. Don’t worry about any mold that appears, you can simply cut it off. Soft cheeses can be eaten up to a week after their expiration date, and less if you have already opened the package. If mold or mildew appears on soft cheese, it should not be eaten.

Sliced bread. If stored properly, it can be eaten within 5-7 days after its expiration date at room temperature. Frozen bread can be stored for 6 months. If blue or green mold appears on it, don’t throw it away; you can simply cut it off. Only bread with black mold should be thrown away.

Potatoes. Still edible three weeks after its expiration date. If it has turned green and sprouted, you can simply cut off those parts of the potato and eat the rest. If it has mold, cut it off with a knife as well.
