“Carcinogens” in products: are meat and milk really dangerous?

The causes of cancer are often diverse. But food plays a key role: about 30 percent of cancers are linked to diet. The German Cancer Research Center warns about two foods in particular.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with colon cancer second in both sexes. The causes of the development of both types of cancer are still not clear. Nevertheless, researchers at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) have identified a cancer-causing agent in food: the so-called BMMF microbe.

Further research is needed

BMMF stands for as “beef meat and milk factor”, the pathogen was detected in milk and meat products from European beef. The degree of influence of BMMF on cancer risk cannot yet be reliably assessed. Further research on the causative agents of infection is urgently needed.

About the importance of nutrition:

  • Almost every third person gets cancer. The reasons for this are various. However, according to WHO, diet plays a crucial role. Consumer experts from Stiftung Warentest show which foods to avoid – or at least eat in moderation: diet is responsible for one in three cancers.
  • German cancer researcher suspects: high number of breast and colon cancers can be caused by infection caused by harmful pathogens in cow's milk and beef. Now he has new evidence: the winner of the Nobel Prize in medicine warns: pathogens in milk and meat can contribute to the development of cancer.
  • Is there a connection between the consumption of certain foods and the development of cancer? Various studies around the world are investigating this. Some researchers suspect that especially breast and colon cancer, as well as multiple sclerosis, may be linked to the consumption of beef and cow's milk. Improper nutrition in babies can later lead to cancer.
