Doctor recommends migraine remedy that has no side effects

The doctor told how you can relieve migraines at home without any side effects.

If you've ever suffered from migraines, you'll immediately recognize the throbbing pain that usually affects one side of the head. Migraines, which can last for hours or even days, can cause other unpleasant symptoms, such as pain in the back of the neck and fatigue.

While prescription painkillers are usually the first resort for sufferers, the doctor shared a tip that has no side effects, unlike medication.

The doctor talked about a migraine treatment that you can do from the comfort of your home. What's more, all you need is hot water.

Soaking your feet in water can help relieve severe pain. What's more, this simple technique doesn't have the side effects that medications can cause.

“If you suffer from migraines, here's a way that has no side effects and can help – soak your feet in hot water,” says the therapist.

He explained that the hot water will help dilate the blood vessels in your legs, releasing blood from your head. When blood is diverted away from the site of your migraine attack, it can reduce the pain you feel.

“This will dilate the blood vessels in your legs, diverting blood away from your head, which will relieve pressure on the blood vessels that are causing your migraine, which in turn will reduce your pain,” the therapist said.

Soak your feet in hot water for 10 minutes and it will do the trick.

“About four hours after that, you will have a mild headache instead of a severe migraine. You can sit on the edge of the bathtub and turn on the hot water,” the doctor advises.

Health effects of migraines

Women and men who suffer from migraines have an increased risk of developing ischemic stroke — the most common form of stroke caused by a blood clot.

Women themselves may carry an additional risk of heart attack and hemorrhagic stroke — a stroke caused by a ruptured blood vessel.

It is believed that people diagnosed with migraines are at higher risk of heart attack or stroke before the age of 60. Previous studies have shown that the increased risk of ischemic stroke, when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel going to the brain, mainly affects young women.

In addition to soaking your feet in water, the doctor says there is another way to reduce migraine pain.

“The available evidence suggests that magnesium may be effective as a preventive treatment for migraines.”

Some people have side effects, including upset stomach or diarrhea.
