Experts have named an accessory that is dangerous to wear after 60 years of age

Elderly people often get into car accidents and even die in them. According to experts, the risk of getting injured or dying in a car accident increases as people get older. This is due to age-related changes that affect driving. However, ditching just one accessory can increase your chances of driving safely.

The American Optometric Association (AOA) says that older adults should avoid wearing glasses with wide frames or temples because they can limit your side vision.

Dr. Lynn Poston, a medical consultant at Impakt Fitness, says that loss of peripheral vision is one of the three main changes that occur with age in vision.

People lose 1 to 3 degrees of peripheral vision every decade of their lives. By the time you turn 60, most of your peripheral vision will have disappeared.

“Avoid wearing glasses that can further limit your peripheral vision while driving,” she recommends.

Poston notes that in addition to peripheral vision loss, other changes will occur in your later years. Specifically, the eyes will shrink and the retina will thicken. This can lead to cataracts.

Other vision problems that can occur later in life include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, dry eyes, glaucoma and retinal detachment, according to the AOA.
