Experts have named six unexpected signs of approaching menstruation

Experts from the United States have told about six unexpected signs that signal the beginning of menstruation.

Some women suffer from severe migraines on the eve of critical days. This condition is associated with hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle – estrogen and progesterone. According to official data from the American Headache Society, discomfort begins 2 days before the start of the period. You should not be surprised by changes in bowel habits. The body releases prostaglandins that cause the uterus to contract, but sometimes so much of them is released that they are distributed to other areas of the body. This increase causes diarrhea in some women, and in others – an increase in the number of bowel movements. Gynecologist Alexa Dweck notes that breast swelling can sometimes last for a week, which is due to increased progesterone levels. In this case, it is recommended to drink less caffeine, use an ice pack or heating pad, and take painkillers.

Serotonin levels are usually depleted before menstruation begins, and cortisol levels (a hormone released during stress) increase. Sweet and fatty foods release the former. Due to these fluctuations, women may experience a sharp sexual desire with dramatic changes in food preferences. Weight gain is also on the list. The appearance of weakness also signals the approach of menstruation. For example, studies have shown that when progesterone levels are high the week before a period, women need more time to recover from exercise.
