Experts told how dehydrated fruits are more useful than dried ones

Any nutritionist will tell you that you need to eat fruits and vegetables all year round. Of course, these fruits can now be bought even in winter. Despite this, some of them are recommended to be used in season. The natural ripening process of fruits and vegetables, during which they accumulate nutrients, is closely related to the time of year, temperature, humidity level and light level. It is still impossible to create conditions “identical to natural” in greenhouses, so fruits and vegetables grown in greenhouses are much inferior in terms of vitamin composition to their seasonal counterparts. Experts from Baazar report that an excellent way out of this situation is dehydrogenation.

Details

This method of processing fresh fruits and vegetables allows you to extend the shelf life for many months, preserving almost all the nutrients. Dehydration (in simple words – dehydration) of products occurs in special devices, where liquid is gradually and evenly removed from them over a period of 12-20 hours at a relatively low temperature (no more than 50°C), thanks to which the beneficial substances in the products are preserved.

The dehydrogenation process is completely safe for fiber, beneficial fatty acids, minerals and most vitamins. In the process of dehydration, the concentration of only vitamins A and C in products decreases (although the latter is so unstable that it begins to break down even from simple contact with air, as well as an increase or decrease in temperature). Dehydrogenated products retain not only their benefits, but also calories, while significantly losing weight. Thus, eating 100g. of dehydrated mango, you get the same nutrients as one and a half kilograms of this fruit – which is more than 1,000 kcal!

Nevertheless, dehydrated fruits and vegetables are an excellent snack that packs a huge amount of benefits. The main thing is not to get too excited about them and make sure that the treats fit into your caloric intake. If you decide to replace some of the fresh fruits with dehydrated ones, try to drink more liquid: according to statistics, we cover up to 35% of our daily water needs with food, in particular fruits and vegetables. Also, if you buy dehydrated foods in the store, carefully study the ingredients: they can often contain sugar, salt, oils and preservatives, which are best avoided.
