Feet sweat: why and what to do?
1
Sweating is common to every person. But sometimes this phenomenon brings significant discomfort. For example, sweating feet can be a sign of various diseases. Why do feet sweat and what to do about it, we will tell you in our material.
Reasons why feet sweat
There are about two million eccrine sweat glands on the human body, most of which are located on the soles of the feet. Even a healthy person secretes about 0.5-1 liter of sweat. And with increased physical exertion, its amount can increase to 10 liters per day.
Therefore, the main reason why feet sweat a lot is physical activity. This includes training, walking, and physical labor.
But in most cases, the problem is not so much in the amount of sweat produced, but in the unpleasant odor that haunts a person when their feet sweat. Sweat consists of water, which contains the following substances: proteins, urea, fatty acids, salts, toxic substances, and partly food components. In other words, what a person eats will be directly reflected in the smell of their sweat.
It is worth noting that the smell is formed as a result of bacterial decomposition of sweat. Of course, everyone's scent is different. When sweat decomposes, butyric acid is formed, which has the smell of old cheese or rancid oil.
Another reason for the smell of sweaty feet is improper shoe care. We spend almost the whole day in them. When any emergency situation and stress occurs, sweat is released, although you may not even notice it. Shoes become wet and rarely anyone dries them. The next day they do not have time to dry, we put them on again. And bacteria accumulate and begin to cause an unpleasant odor. That is why it is not recommended to wear the same shoes every day. You need to either have several pairs, always dry your shoes with an antibacterial dryer, and it is advisable to change shoes during the day.
Don't forget about hot weather. On such days, your feet will sweat much more. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it yourself.
And more serious reasons why the legs can sweat are various diseases, for example, diabetes, problems with the thyroid gland, varicose veins. Often, women during menopause experience sweating.
What to do if your feet sweat a lot?
Very often, feet sweat and do not bother a person. Discomfort can occur when you take off your shoes. If the situation is a one-time occurrence, then there is nothing wrong with this. But if your feet sweat constantly, causing terrible discomfort, then it is best to consult a doctor. In some cases, we are talking about serious health problems, so it is better to protect yourself from such risks.
Sometimes, if you do not take any measures to eliminate the problem, the skin of the feet will be damaged, its integrity will be violated. Then other problems will appear, for example, dermatitis, fungus, eczema, mycosis. Very often, people who have been diagnosed with oncology have encountered this symptom. Feet also sweat in those who have changed hormonal levels, with flat feet and some infectious diseases.
Of course, if a person's feet sweat a lot, one should pay attention to personal hygiene. The skin of the feet needs careful care so that such problems do not arise. After all, a serious load falls on the legs, which can cause severe sweating.
If hyperhidrosis is harmless and does not harm health, then the situation can be corrected with folk methods. For example, use various powders that will block the release of sweat. But remember that you should not use them on a constant basis, it is better to use them several times a week, and then reduce to a minimum to once a month.
You can also use baths with sea salt, manganese, which can suppress the unpleasant aroma. Baby powder is also very useful, as it will prevent fungal diseases. You can use oak bark, which is ground to dust and treated with socks and insoles.
All these measures will get rid of sweaty feet and unpleasant odor.
