From cholesterol and for the liver: what are the benefits of a popular spice

Many spices have a beneficial effect on health. But not everyone is aware of their true benefits.

For example, nutmeg. This popular spice becomes an addition to a large number of dishes. But what are its benefits?

Antioxidant properties

Several studies have shown that nutmeg and its extracts may have antioxidant potential. It may contain powerful compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and myristicin that can help neutralize free radicals in the body. This, in turn, helps reduce oxidative stress.

Liver Protection

An animal study published by the American Chemical Society shows that nutmeg can help with problems with the liver, for example, when it is inflamed, because it is rich in myrizlignan.

Cholesterol lowering

In an animal study, nutmeg extracts could show hypolipidemic effects. This means that there was a significant reduction in LDL cholesterol in this population. Another animal study found that nutmeg seed extracts may help lower LDL cholesterol along with total cholesterol.
