Fruits with a low glycemic index that diabetics can eat

When it comes to about fruits for patients with diabetes, their glycemic index (GI) becomes the determining factor of choice.

Fruits for diabetics are an ambiguously useful product due to their fructose content. Fructose is a form of natural sugar, and if consumed in excess, it can raise blood sugar levels, something diabetics should avoid.

However, with the right choices, even diabetics can afford to eat fruit. According to data, some gifts of nature have a low glycemic index, and therefore can be allowed (in a certain amount) in diabetes.

Peach.The glycemic index of one medium peach is about 42, which will not harm your sugar and insulin levels. In addition, peaches are rich in healthy nutrients such as potassium, fiber, vitamins A and C, and their consumption allows you to stay full for a long time.

Cherry. Its GI index is very low – only 20: this means that cherries do not cause a rapid increase in blood sugar. Its other advantages are a large amount of antioxidants, vitamin C and fiber, which reduce the metabolism of sugar and save it from spikes in the blood.

Plum. In addition to fiber and antioxidants, it contains 15 different vitamins and minerals. The glycemic index of this fruit is 40.

Orange. One orange has a relatively low glycemic index (about 40-43) and, thanks to the fiber, is digested slowly – it only provides a gradual increase in the level glucose in the blood.

Apples. Their unsweetened varieties also have a low glycemic load and are suitable for diabetics. In addition, apples contain a decent amount of necessary vitamins and minerals, as well as a large amount of fiber, which prevents the rapid absorption of sugar.
