Girl's head almost exploded due to brain aneurysm

However, the 24-year-old patient refuted the doctors' gloomy forecasts and survived. True, she had to go into a coma to do so.

Chloe Gallagher, a resident of Ontario, Canada, was taken to the hospital after she suddenly lost her vision and also experienced a terrible headache. This happened right while she was watching TV at home. A CT scan showed that the girl's entire brain was filled with blood, as a blood vessel had ruptured. In fact, Chloe had a hemorrhagic stroke, which is often fatal. During an emergency surgery, doctors removed a palm-sized piece of the girl's skull before putting her in a coma.

Chloe's parents were advised to prepare for the worst. Even if she survived, she would have to face severe disability, which is often observed after a hemorrhagic stroke for life. However, the girl turned out to be a truly remarkable patient. She not only regained consciousness, but also practically did not lose any of her body functions, retaining full mobility. The only serious consequence of a severe stroke for her was epilepsy.

Chloe became a victim of a brain aneurysm, or rupture of a blood vessel. Sometimes these vessels can leak, and sometimes they completely rupture, provoking the most severe hemorrhages in the brain. Symptoms of an aneurysm include a sudden and severe headache, vomiting and nausea, stiff neck, blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light, seizures, drooping eyelids, confusion, and loss of consciousness. Aneurysms are treated with surgery or medications to restore blood flow and relieve pain.
