High cholesterol: two simple foods to help lower it

Balance the level cholesterol in the body can be certain foods, but doctors especially single out garlic and fish, including salmon, mackerel and sardines. As experts explained, it's all about a substance called allicin and omega-3 fatty acids.

According to Mayo Clinic doctors, omega-3 contained in fish can reduce the level of triglycerides in the blood and the risk of blood clots. In the study, it was also established that omega-3 fatty acids increase the level of “good” cholesterol and decrease “bad” cholesterol. The American Heart Association recommends eating at least two servings of fish per week.

As for garlic, studies have also shown that it can lower cholesterol. Scientists associate this effect with the content of allicin in vegetables.

The National Health Service of Great Britain (NHS) noted that the main priority in the fight against high cholesterol should be diet, giving up bad habits and increasing physical activity.

“To lower cholesterol, try to reduce the consumption of fatty foods, especially foods with a high content of saturated fats. Instead, the diet should include unsaturated fats, as well as vegetables and fruits,” the doctors added.
