High cholesterol: what foods do doctors recommend to eat for breakfast

One of the foods , recommended for breakfast for people with high cholesterol levels, is whole grain oatmeal.

Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is produced in the liver and consumed by us as part of some products. In a certain amount, it is necessary for the body, but an excess of cholesterol threatens the clogging of arteries and the development of such health problems as heart attack or stroke.

When it comes to the need to lower cholesterol and control it, one of the key methods is rethinking and correcting the diet. People with high cholesterol are usually recommended to eat unprocessed or minimally processed low-fat products, mostly of vegetable origin. Also, on this path, it is important to choose the right products for breakfast, reports Healthline.

Oatmeal. One of the best products suitable for breakfast is called whole oat grains or long-boiled oatmeal. Such a product contains soluble fiber, effectively reduces the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), the so-called “bad” cholesterol. This is due to the fact that soluble fiber slows down the digestion process, being “difficult” for absorption – as a result, the absorption of fat into the blood is also inhibited.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “eating as little as one and a half cups of cooked oatmeal per day can reduce the level of cholesterol by 5-8 percent”.

Protein. Another product that requires a long digestion and does not lead to an increase in blood sugar, which quickly causes hunger. According to doctors, in the fight against high cholesterol, it is useful to eat not only eggs, but also whey protein for breakfast. Research has shown that whey protein taken as a supplement helps lower both LDL and total cholesterol levels, as well as blood pressure.

Avocado. Scientists at Pennsylvania State University found , that eating one avocado a day is associated with lower levels of “bad” cholesterol in overweight adults.
