How and why rice is used when growing cucumbers

Rice (white, unsteamed or brown) ground into flour using a regular coffee grinder is actively used in growing plants in the garden and in the vegetable garden. Rice water is especially popular among fans of organic farming, who fundamentally do not use mineral synthetic fertilizers on their plots. Pumpkin vegetables are especially responsive to the infusion of rice grains, including cucumbers, which are popular among amateur gardeners.

This crop removes so many nutrients from the soil during the season that it is simply impossible to do without additional feeding during flowering, ovary formation and green mass. Otherwise, the “vines” will quickly wither and dry out, and the yield of the plantation will drop.

The benefits of rice groats for cucumbers

Rice grains, especially brown rice, contain B vitamins, selenium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, antioxidants, lingin, starchy substances, and natural sugars.

The use of rice water when growing cucumber seedlings, as well as adult pumpkin plants in open and closed soil, has the following effects:

  1. Increases the phytoimmunity of plants, and therefore their resistance to adverse factors, including temperature changes, weather conditions, pests, and infections.
  2. Stimulates the growth of green mass and the development of the root system.
  3. Improves the composition and taste of fruits.
  4. Provides additional nutrition for seedlings.

The rice water recipe is as simple as possible:

  • grind a handful of brown or white unsteamed rice in a coffee grinder;
  • pour 1 teaspoon of rice flour with a glass of boiling water (a standard bucket of water for feeding greenhouse or garden cucumbers requires 10 tsp of white powder);
  • let the liquid feeding infuse for a day;
  • Before watering the plants under the root, vigorously shake the sediment.

Tips for using rice fertilizer for cucumbers and other pumpkin crops

The prepared microfertilizer is used when growing cucumbers, starting from the stage of formation of the first true leaf, 2 times a month.

Seedlings are watered under the root from a syringe or a large syringe on moist soil (it is most convenient to plan the procedure for the morning after evening watering).

Adult bushes are fertilized with an infusion of ground rice every 2 weeks at the rate of 0.5 l per plant. Like all root dressings, rice infusion is applied after rain or scheduled watering, that is, on moist soil.

In addition to cucumbers, you can feed zucchini, squash and pumpkins with rice infusion. The consumption of the working solution is 0.8 l per adult plant. Root top dressing – every 12 days.

According to reviews from experienced summer residents, using this simple recipe significantly extends the life of cucumber bushes, especially in greenhouses and hothouses. Wishing you excellent harvests of gherkins and all other vegetables at your summer cottage!
