Experts do not recommend treating silver jewelry too often. This is especially true for silver jewelry, as the coating from such treatment can become thinner. There are the following ways to restore the shine of silver jewelry at home:
- A special silver polish is one of the best ways. These products contain substances that remove dirt and create a protective coating.
- Dishwashing liquid. You need to mix a few drops of the gel with warm water, then moisten a soft cloth in the solution and wipe the silver. After that, the product should be rinsed with cool water and polished dry with another soft cloth.
- Baking soda. For heavy soiling, you can use a paste of three parts baking soda and one part water. Wet the silver and apply the product with a soft, lint-free cloth. Rub lightly, then rinse and dry.
- Toothpaste. Apply a drop of white paste (not gel) to tarnished silver and rub the jewelry very gently with your finger or a soft cloth. Then rinse well with warm water and polish to a shine with a soft cloth.
To restore the shine to gold jewelry, it is recommended to do the following.
In a small container, mix a few drops of dishwashing detergent with half a cup of warm water. Place the product in the solution and leave for three to five minutes. Rinse the products carefully, then remove and place on a soft cloth. You can use a soft toothbrush to scrub the crevices and links of the chain to remove dirt more effectively. Rinse the jewelry with clean water and polish dry with a soft cloth.
