How to recognize Alzheimer's disease before symptoms appear
0
Scientists from Lund University in Sweden have found a way to detect Alzheimer's disease before patients develop any symptoms.
The study involved 1,325 people. At the beginning of the study, they did not have any cognitive impairment. Using PET scans, the scientists determined the level of tau proteins and beta-amyloid in the participants' brains.
The analysis showed that if such proteins are present, the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease increases 20-40 times. Dementia takes 10-20 years to develop before symptoms appear.
The discovery could help diagnose problems much earlier, which would increase the likelihood of coping with the disease.
