How to sow lettuce before winter to get an early harvest in spring

The decision to sow lettuce before winter has a good reason. The fact is that getting an early harvest in spring is a vitamin boost after a cold winter. This is not the only plus. During the winter, the seeds undergo a natural stratification process. They become more disease-resistant and will germinate 2-3 weeks earlier than those sown in spring.
How to sow lettuce before winter
You need to start making a bed around the end of October or the first decade of November. It should be cool so that the seeds do not germinate. You also need to follow basic agricultural techniques:
Place. It should be bright. Lettuce does not like to grow in shaded conditions. In the spring, this place should not be flooded with water. Dig up the soil with a shovel. Make high beds.
Fertilization. The soil on the bed should be fertilized with manure or compost at the rate of 1 bucket per 1 sq. m. Then make furrows. Cover the prepared bed with foil. Let it stand for now.
Sowing. You need to sow when it is already quite cold. Even frosts. Prepare loose soil in advance, which you can sprinkle with furrows. Sow to a depth of 1.5 cm.
Mulching. After sowing, the bed should be insulated. For this, spruce branches or coniferous litter are well suited. Peat mixed with sand is also suitable. After the spring snow melts, the mulch should be removed.
