How to wash pillows and blankets: 7 “secrets” that housewives know about

We tell you how to get fresh, clean and undeformed pillows and blankets after washing.
When it comes to washing pillows and blankets, many people immediately understand that it will be a long and painstaking job. In the meantime, there are several useful life hacks that will help you get your blankets and pillows clean and fresh faster (and keep them that way for as long as possible).
Let the air out of the pillows
Often we have to wash all the pillows one by one because they simply do not fit in the drum of the washing machine. To save time, you can manually squeeze the air out of the pillows (this works especially well with down or synthetic fillers), thereby reducing their volume. As a result, not one, but two (or even three) pillows will fit into the machine at once.
Read the labels
This advice may seem banal, but many people ignore the manufacturer's washing recommendations. Meanwhile, if you do not follow the rules indicated on the label (water temperature, washing mode, etc.), you can quickly ruin your pillow or blanket.
Wash on a gentle cycle
If for some reason you are unable to wash according to the label recommendations, set the machine to a gentle cycle for delicate fabrics and wash the pillows and blankets on it. The appropriate temperature is usually 30-40 °C. Use mild hypoallergenic gels as a detergent.
Rinse thoroughly
Rinse is perhaps the most important stage in washing pillows and blankets. To make sure that there is no powder or gel left in them, it is better to run a double rinse cycle.
Dry in the open air
If possible, do not dry blankets and pillows in a machine; it is better to put them on a clothes dryer and leave them in a room near a window (ideally, on a balcony). Experts also advise against immediately putting pillows and blankets in a closet – let them lie in an open, ventilated space for a few days.
Use sachets
Sachets are small bags with dried aromatic herbs sewn into them. This device will help pillows and blankets stay fresh and smell nice for longer. Simply place 1-2 sachets of your favorite scent in a box with pillows and blankets.
Wash every 2-3 months
When it comes to washing pillows and blankets, once every two or three months is enough. But it's better to change and wash bed linen every week.
