Man loses all four limbs after dentist visit

An accidental puncture of the gum provoked severe sepsis, or blood infection. The patient required amputation of his arms and legs, and he also fell into a coma for three months.

A resident of England, Tom Ray, will never forget a visit to the dentist that he made in 1999, when the man was 38 years old. While removing stones, the dentist accidentally punctured his patient's gum, and through this puncture, dangerous pathogens entered the bloodstream. Sepsis developed rapidly, because at that moment Tom was sick with the flu, and his body was weakened. A few hours later, the man began to feel nauseous and his temperature rose. The victim was sent to the hospital, where he fell into a coma, from which he came out only three months later.

During this long period, both terrible and pleasant events occurred in the patient's life. First, in order to save Tom's life, doctors had to sequentially amputate his arms and legs, as well as part of his mouth, as the bacteria rapidly spread throughout the body. Secondly, because of this disease, the family had to sell their house, as they lost their business. The wife had to focus entirely on caring for her disabled husband. However, during these same three months, Tom's wife gave birth to a second child, a boy named Freud. The parents already had a daughter, Grace, at that time.

After coming out of the coma, Tom was in such a borderline state that at first he did not even recognize his wife. He needed many months of rehabilitation. Today he has learned to operate prosthetic arms and legs, but his wife still continues to take care of her husband. Well, Tom speaks at various meetings and tells his story. He urges others never to visit dentists during the flu or other similar illnesses.
