Named simple products that can lead to cancer

Scientists from Australia have determined that the food additive based on nanoparticles E171 (titanium dioxide) can lead to colon cancer.

It has been established that this substance is used for bleaching in mayonnaise, chewing gum, milk, canned fish, and bakery products.

The experiment proved the effect of titanium dioxide on the intestines of mice. It turned out that the food additive does not change the species composition of intestinal bacteria directly, but affects the activity of certain genes that control the state of the mucous membrane. At the same time, it promotes the formation of bacterial films that lead to inflammatory and tumor diseases.

In recent studies, scientists have determined that titanium dioxide is a substance that always produces a certain amount of nanoparticles during its production. Such nanoparticles can be found in a variety of products – candy (especially dragees), chewing gum, dairy products, carbonated water, including dry mixes for their preparation, mayonnaise, processed meat, fast food and, in fact, in many white products.

Thus, scientists have found a large number of nanoparticles in crab sticks. Children also get a lot of dangerous particles – in the composition of any dragees, chewing gum and carbonated drinks.

β€œIn addition to products, titanium dioxide is also used as a bleaching agent in toothpastes, in the shells of tablets and capsules with medicines, in sunscreen cosmetics and some hygiene products. Studies have shown that nanoparticles of this substance are absorbed by the body through the skin, lungs and partly through the digestive tract,” the researchers note.

In addition, titanium dioxide nanoparticles disrupt the permeability of the intestinal mucosa, as a result of which toxic substances and pathogens of infections, for which it is normally impermeable, can penetrate into the blood through it. Similarly, in animal experiments, the so-called blood-brain barrier, which protects the brain from the penetration of harmful substances, viruses and other microorganisms from the blood, was disrupted.

However, scientists believe that it is too early to state a connection between E171 and cancer. For this, a whole series of studies must be conducted.
