According to the experts at Top Chiropractic, how you sleep can actually be the cause of your neck pain. They gave some tips on how to improve your sleep, which in turn will reduce your neck pain. Experts recommend sleeping on your back, and if back sleeping is not possible, adopt a side sleeping position, keeping your neck and spine in a neutral position.
They said:
“We try not to encourage sleeping on your stomach because sleeping on your stomach means that your neck is twisted while you sleep and your spine is in a compromised position. If you sleep on your side, your pillow should be wide enough to maintain a neutral position and not leave your head elevated (bent to the side) or unsupported.”
Some positions are considered healthier than others.
“In particular, sleeping on the side or back is considered more beneficial than sleeping on the stomach. In any of these sleeping positions, it is easier to support and balance the spine, which reduces pressure on the spinal tissue and allows the muscles to relax and recover.”
