Tea is considered a good alternative to coffee, especially for those for whom such a drink is contraindicated. There are hundreds of different varieties in the world, which differ not only in taste and color, but also in properties. Several types of tea are the most useful.
White tea
Known as beauty tea. Studies have shown that white tea has potential antiaging activity by inhibiting the enzymes collagenase and elastase and may help protect skin cells from sun damage. Therefore, it is not surprising that white tea is often included in elite skin care products.
In addition, it has a lot of other health benefits. In particular, a study conducted at Pace University found that white tea extract is able to kill bacteria, viruses and fungi in the body more effectively than other teas. The work focused on bacteria that cause Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and pneumonia infections. Another study found that white tea may protect against colon cancer.
Green tea
It is second only to white in its usefulness. This includes all types of tea, including Japanese matcha. Tea is rich in antioxidants and catechins, including the well-studied EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). Research shows that this substance helps improve heart health, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation. The anti-inflammatory properties of tea have a positive effect on blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
In addition, green tea can prevent the replication of certain types of malignant cells, including those that form in breast and lung cancer. In some cases, the drink can even cause apoptosis of cancer cells themselves.
Black tea
One of the most popular drinks in the world, it is rich in heart-healthy antioxidants. A review of the “European Journal of Clinical Nutrition” emphasizes that consumption of more than three cups of black tea per day is associated with a reduced risk of coronary heart disease.
Rooibos tea
< Another type of tea with antioxidant properties. Rooibos, also known as "red bush", is made from the plant Aspalathus linearis, which grows in South Africa. Studies have shown that the antioxidant properties of rooibos are similar to those of green tea.
In the course of experiments, it was found that the drink is able to protect the liver from oxidative stress, lower blood pressure and relax tense muscles thanks to its active component chrysoeriol. Unlike green or black tea, rooibos does not contain caffeine, so it does not have a stimulating effect.
Chamomile tea
Dried chamomile flowers contain many terpenoids and flavonoids, which make it a medicinal drink. Chamomile tea is used for many ailments, including hay fever, inflammation, muscle spasms, insomnia, ulcers, gastrointestinal disorders, and rheumatic pain.
