Scientists: A red tongue is a symptom of a dangerous disease

A red tongue is a symptom of a dangerous disease. This is stated by scientists from the NHLBI, who discovered a new method of diagnosing certain diseases.

According to them, redness and thickening of the tongue indicates a deficiency of vitamin B12. This, in turn, causes pernicious anemia, which is accompanied by impaired hematopoiesis.

B12 is necessary for the body and for the normal functioning of the nervous system, and the production of healthy erythrocytes also depends on its level. If this vitamin is not enough, the nervous system is damaged – the process is accompanied by tingling and numbness of the limbs, loss of reflexes and weakness in the muscles. In this case, the patient may lose balance and experience problems when walking.

If B12 is not replenished in time, the bones may become weak and brittle. According to scientists, vitamin deficiency can also be the cause of depression, dementia and memory loss.

B12 deficiency is accompanied by other symptoms, such as nausea, bloating, heartburn, weight loss and appetite. Scientists recommend in such cases to consult a doctor, and for prevention it is necessary to introduce dairy products, eggs, fish, liver, poultry and beef into the diet.
