Scientists have discovered the cause of nightmares

Scientists from the UK, Sweden and Finland have found out why people sometimes have nightmares.
A group of scientists decided to analyze the human brain during sleep. As a result, it turned out that nightmares appear during an imbalance between two areas of the brain. What is no less important, the main point in the appearance of nightmares is frontal alpha asymmetry, in which a specific type of brain activity is higher in only one half of the brain.
Scientists came to these conclusions after studying the brain areas of 17 volunteers. They were tested before and after sleep. The researchers monitored how the brain controls emotions during anger at the time of dreaming.
Scientists believe that reduced brain activity may lead to more nightmares during sleep. Simply put, the more the left hemisphere of the brain is activated, the higher the likelihood of unpleasant dreams. Scientists hope that this research will help in the development of drugs.
