Scientists have explained which blood group increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases

Not everyone knows their blood type. But this knowledge can suggest the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Recently, scientists have studied different blood groups and determined how they potentially affect health.

A group of scientists led by Torsten Dahlen, a doctoral candidate in the Faculty of Hematology at the Karolinska Institute, analyzed data on the health status of more than 5 million people in Sweden. Not only the blood group was taken into account, but also the Rhesus factor.

In the end, scientists were able to connect the blood group with 49 diseases and one with the Rhesus factor. It turned out that people with the second and third blood groups are at a greater risk of developing heart disease.

The results also showed that women with the first blood group and a positive Rh factor are more likely to experience hypertension during pregnancy. The analysis also showed that people with the second blood group are less likely to develop kidney stones.
