Scientists have found out how many years a woman ages after giving birth

Researchers have found out that giving birth to children has a negative effect on the female body. What exactly were the experts able to find out?

Scientists from George Mason University in the USA have found out how many years a woman ages after giving birth. They published the results of their research in the authoritative journal Human Reproduction. As part of their scientific work, they analyzed the DNA of 2,000 women of reproductive age, revealing a connection between motherhood and the onset of aging.

Experts found that those women who gave birth to children have shorter sections of chromosomes that protect DNA as they age – telomeres. This increases the risk of many diseases, including heart disease.

Scientists clarified that the reduction in protective sections of DNA directly depends on the number of children born. However, the authors of the studies also specify that some unaccounted factors, such as smoking or obesity, can also affect the shortening of telomeres.

Studies have shown that giving birth to a child accelerates aging by 11 years.
