Scientists have found out what herbs help reduce blood pressure
The study explains how these herbal substances act on a certain type of potassium ionic channels called KCNQ5, which are expressed on the cells of smooth muscles in the walls of the blood vessels. These herbs affect the tone of the vessels, relaxing smooth muscle fibers in the walls of the arteries, reducing blood pressure. This includes lavender, which is one of the most powerful KCNQ5 activators. Other comparable molecules are in fennel and chamomile seed extract. On the other hand, plant extracts that did not cause a decrease in blood pressure did not have the ability to activate the KCNQ5 channel. A certain isoform of the latter binds at the base sensitive to the voltage of part of the channel molecule to cause a change in the conformation that activates KCNQ5. Similar molecules in other plants that demonstrate similar mechanisms of action are still open. This can stimulate the development of new antihypertensive drugs.
