Scientists have named a feature that predicts quick death

The study showed that the degree of fatigue that certain types of activities cause an elderly person, can predict the probability of death in the next three years.

Experts from the University of Pittsburgh were responsible for the work. This study is the first to indicate that physical fatigue may be a predictor of early death.

Elderly adults who scored the highest fatigue scores were twice as likely to die in the next 2.7 years compared with peers who were less tired. The lead author of the study was Dr. Nancy W. Glynn, associate professor of epidemiology in the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Social Sciences.

She and colleagues used the fatigue scale to assess nearly three thousand people aged 60 and older. Participants rated their fatigue on a scale of zero to five after taking a leisurely 30-minute walk, cleaning the house, or doing heavy gardening.

After taking into account various factors affecting mortality, the team found that participants who scored 25 or higher were 2.3 times more likely to die after 2.7 years. Glynn notes that playing sports increases a person's endurance, and therefore affects fatigue. In this way, physical activity can prolong life.
