Cheese is considered by many as a junk food that contributes to increased cholesterol levels, but scientists from the United States recently discovered that some types of the product can protect against liver cancer. New work by specialists from University College Dublin provides further arguments in favor of cheese. For example, it can help you lose weight, and its consumption does not necessarily lead to an increase in cholesterol.
Scientists monitored 1,500 volunteers from Ireland who regularly ate cheese. As a result, they found that frequent consumption of the product led to a significant increase in the level of saturated fatty acids in the body, but there were no differences in the observed levels of LDL cholesterol.
The researchers suggest that the mixture of nutrients in cheese helps compensate for the increased intake of saturated fats. In addition, its presence in the diet led to a decrease in waist size and correlated with lower blood pressure. However, for more accurate results, it is necessary to study the entire diet of the subjects to identify possible connections.
