An Australian couple lived happily in the building of a former tram station in the city of Adelaide for 30 years. Now Corbett and Diana are selling this unique property, which was once successfully converted into a family home.

How an Australian couple turned a tram station into a home

First, the owners of the station demolished several interior walls, creating a large living space. There they installed a central staircase that visually separates the kitchen and dining room.

On the second floor, the owners made three bedrooms, a living room and a stylish bathroom with a hydromassage system. The windows look out onto a lovely backyard and a veranda planted with citrus trees and avocado trees.

The couple then added another bedroom, a kitchenette and a separate bathroom to the first floor. According to the plan, Diana's mother was supposed to move there, but it didn't work out.

We tried not to touch the outside of the building, so it has the same appearance as it once did. You can still see where the cable ran, and there's a massive transformer on the back porch to run the streetcars, Corbett says of the exterior of the house.

The mansion has one big advantage – it's cool in the summer and warmer in the winter. All this thanks to massive walls 470 millimeters thick.

From the outside, the building is quite unremarkable, but when you step inside, it's as if you find yourself in another world. This has its own charm. The station will be 100 years old in a few years, and we think it's time to hand it over, the owners shared.

The building will be sold at auction. The starting rate is currently unknown.
