The dermatologist explained how to determine health problems by nails

Healthy nails usually have a natural pink color. A change in their color and shape can indicate health problems. At the same time, we are talking not only about a lack of vitamins, but also about more serious diseases. Nutritionist Fiona Tuck explained what changes in the nails should be alarming.

One of the most common changes in fingernails is white spots. They talk about the lack of zinc and calcium in the body. Dairy products and leafy green vegetables will help fill the calcium deficiency. Zinc is found in pumpkin seeds, oysters, poultry and red meat.

Pale or blue nails indicate poor circulation throughout the body. Sport will solve this problem: it is necessary to increase the amount of physical activity. Also, a similar color of the nails may indicate a lack of iron in the body. It is possible to find out by doing a blood test. If he confirms the deficiency of the trace element, then it is worth adding foods rich in it to your diet.

Ridges and vertical lines on the nails indicate that the body does not receive a sufficient amount of protein, iron, zinc and others. Perhaps these elements are lacking due to an unbalanced diet. If everything is normal with the diet, then it is worth paying attention to the health of the intestines. As you know, it is this organ that is responsible for “receiving” from food all the nutrients necessary for a person.

Curved nails are more common in the elderly and can indicate serious problems with the lungs. Difficulty breathing is possible. Cardiovascular diseases are also not excluded.

A less common change in the nails is the so-called dimples, which look like tiny dots, as if from a needle. They can talk about an autoimmune disease. Such nails are also found in people who suffer from psoriasis or alopecia (baldness), reports the Daily Mail.

The doctor emphasizes that some features may be genetic. Also, changes in the color and shape of nails often occur due to mechanical damage or exposure to chemicals. In any case, it is worth checking with a specialist to be sure of your health.
