The expert talked about the factors of healthy sleep for different types of people

Sleep depends on the chronotype of the person. There are four of them – a wolf, a bear, a lion and a dolphin, said Olivia Arezzolo, a somnologist from Sydney, Australia.

“Sleep is not a universal concept, and it all depends on your chronotype and your circadian rhythm genes,” said the expert. . According to her, all chronotypes have different restorative needs.

A lion, who likes to go to bed early and wake up early, usually needs less sleep than a wolf or a bear. Wolves, in turn, fall asleep late at night and in this case must sleep until nine in the morning.

Bears usually get up at seven in the morning, but they need to drink coffee to perk up. They make up 55% of the population and can finally wake up only before 10 in the morning. However, representatives of this chronotype feel very sleepy up to 15 hours a day, because of which they may need sugar. Its use will make it difficult to fall asleep during the day.

The fourth chronotype, the dolphin, is, according to Arezzolo, “a typical insomniac.” The expert clarified that they do not have a set sleep schedule, and they can sleep two hours one night and ten hours the next.

According to the expert, genes also play a big role. She cited as an example the results of a study that showed that people with a DEC2 gene mutation sleep about six hours. This is much shorter than the sleep of those who do not have this gene. They sleep an average of eight hours.
