Mouthwashes are needed to destroy bacteria in the oral cavity. But sometimes they can be not so much helpful as dangerous. We will tell you what exactly, in our material.
Research in this area was carried out by scientists from Harvard University in the United States of America. They stated that mouthwashes can destroy beneficial bacteria in the oral cavity. In addition, these products are provocateurs of diabetes.
It turned out that the use of mouthwashes destroys beneficial bacteria that protect the human body from obesity and diabetes. At the same time, mouthwashes should wash away bacteria that cause the formation of bacterial plaque on the teeth and provoke an unpleasant odor. Those who use these drugs are 55 percent more likely to develop diabetes or dangerous spikes in blood sugar levels within three years after starting to rinse. Approximately 17 percent of the study participants developed diabetes or prediabetes. Among them, about 20 percent used mouthwashes.
It is noted that this is the first study to prove the harm of mouthwashes. Experts clarified that antibacterial components are mainly non-selective – that is, they do not target any specific microbes, but destroy all of them in a row. But in the oral cavity there are also beneficial bacteria that the body needs for protection.
