The subscriber is unavailable: which phone numbers are better not to answer and why
0
Just a few decades ago, you could find out someone's address by their home phone number.
Now most people use smartphones, but this has not reduced the problems. Telephone scammers are especially ingenious.
Although law enforcement is trying to combat telephone scammers, anyone can get caught in a scam in Ukraine right now.
Which phone numbers should you answer with caution?
Here are some phone calls that can be potentially dangerous:
Foreign code— if the phone number does not start with a Ukrainian code, you should think about it. For example, +1 means they are calling from the US. Why is this important? All calls from foreign subscribers are charged in accordance with the norms of international communication.
Unknown number – many people simply pick up the phone, even if an unknown number calls. There is a high probability that you will just fall for an advertisement, but there is also a risk that these are scammers.
Short number – numbers like 700 or 800. They can also belong to commercial organizations, but most often online stores, spammers or fraudsters are calling.
Toll-free number — if you see the combination +3800 on the screen, it means that an organization is calling you. It is best to ignore it if you are not expecting a call from a company. As a rule, they will start asking you questions or conducting a survey.
Call from a messenger — calls from messengers or virtual calls are often dangerous, because today they are the ones most used by scammers.
Also pay special attention to the digits of the phone number. Criminals like to imitate large companies and organizations, including banks. In this case, they can change only one digit in the number.
Why it is dangerous to change the number
Today, phone numbers are often tied to online banking, social networks, online stores and other services. When you buy a new phone number, there is a high probability of getting problems from the life of the previous subscriber. The thing is that telecom operators often restore numbers, especially those with a good combination of digits, and then resell them.
