They never start moving towards their dreams and goals. Unsuccessful people have a habit of staying in one place, whether it's because of the fear of failure, the overwhelming feeling of not knowing where to even start, or just general confusion.

They give up too easily. The difference between those who live the life of their dreams and those who are always falling behind has a lot to do with the ability (or lack thereof) to overcome difficulties and move forward. According to psychologist Stephen C. Hayes, you need to “learn not to turn away from what hurts, but instead to turn to your suffering in order to live a life full of meaning and purpose.”

They put short-term gain above long-term success. To break this habit, it is important to perceive your “loss” in the present moment as a real gain.

They practice negative self-talk. This is exactly what many people who are falling behind in life struggle with. Because they don’t believe they are good enough to achieve their goals, they don’t try at all, and their lack of progress only reinforces these negative beliefs about themselves.

They have a scarcity mindset. Another important shift in thinking that people who feel like they are falling behind in life need to make is to abandon their scarcity mindset and move on to an abundance mindset. A scarcity mindset is the belief that there are limited resources in the world and within you. An abundance mindset, on the other hand, is the idea that you can grow, change, and improve—if you just put in the effort.

They are in denial about what they want out of life. If you feel like something is wrong, it probably is. You can try to deny it, but eventually your true self will keep calling you.

They hate change. You can hate change all you want, but that doesn't mean you should avoid it. Often, it's through facing our fears that we grow the most.
