Vitamin B12 deficiency: the five earliest symptoms of the condition

Symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency worsen greatly with sometimes causing significant changes in the body's work. Since the nutrient is necessary for the production of healthy blood cells – erythrocytes, the consequences can be irreversible.

Deformed erythrocytes lead to the fact that organs begin to lack the necessary amount of oxygen. In the beginning, B12 deficiency manifests itself as anemia, so you should pay attention to the color of the skin. Specialists of the National Health Service of Great Britain noted that in this case she becomes unnaturally pale.

Another typical symptom is tinnitus. In this condition, a person begins to hear sounds that are not really there. It can be a buzzing, whistling or ringing sound. Some hear hissing and music.

“You may hear these sounds in one or both ears at once. They can appear and disappear, or they can be present all the time,” the experts added.

In addition, a painful and red tongue – glossitis – will indicate vitamin deficiency. Another sign is ulcers in the mouth. They appear on the inside of the mouth, especially on the cheeks, lips or even the tongue. A B12 deficiency can also affect the eyes, causing “visual impairment.” According to doctors, many symptoms can be alleviated fairly quickly with B12 supplements. First of all, vitamin injections for a maximum of two weeks are recommended as therapy. However, doctors warn that the longer the condition remains untreated, the more difficult it will be to get rid of it.
