What to do if tomatoes are “growing” leaves but there are no ovaries

In June, tomatoes are actively developing, there is a balanced growth of the root and aerial part of the plants. If all processes go correctly, then the first tassels begin to bloom. However, it happens that the bush grows a lot of green mass, but there are few flowers, and they do not form ovaries.

Remove nitrogen fertilization

Tomatoes consume large amounts of nitrogen from the soil, in the result is active growth of leaves and stepsons. An excess of the element leads to the fact that the plant does not absorb other useful substances from the soil. Therefore, the plant has few flowers and no ovaries are formed.

In this case, summer residents stop applying nitrogen fertilization, choosing in favor of those components that will saturate the plant with potassium and phosphorus.

Borna acid

With active growth of green mass, foliar application is made feeding with boric acid. The tool stimulates the flowering of bushes.

Lower leaves and stepsons

In June, summer residents remove the lower leaves of tomatoes. Three leaves are left below the first tassel – others are pinched off. In addition, it is important to carry out step planting taking into account the characteristics of the variety. At the same time, gardeners make sure that the bush does not thicken. Due to the growth of unnecessary stepsons, flowering and the formation of ovaries are inhibited.

Watering

To reduce the growth of green mass, reduce watering of tomatoes. They do it not 2-3 times a week, but once. A decrease in soil moisture will reduce the active growth of leaves.
