Strawberry reproduction is relevant not only for increasing plantations, but also to replace old bushes that bear little fruit and often get sick.

How and where to start breeding strawberries

1. The procedure for choosing a mother bush begins. Breeding of strawberries begins after the end of fruiting.

2. A candidate for a mother bush is a plant that endured the winter, showed excellent yield results in spring and summer, and remained resistant to pests.

3. When the flowering period begins, summer residents cut off all the buds from the selected bushes. This is necessary so that the plants direct all free resources to the development of the mustache. Thus, the uterine bushes are focused not on the harvest, but on the preparation of planting material.

4. Strawberry mustaches begin to form in June. Only the largest and healthiest rosettes are selected. Others that do not look so promising are removed so that the plant does not waste resources on them. In this case, the decisive factor is not quantity, but quality.

5. When the planting material is ready, it is cut, buried in the soil and cared for as if it were a seedling. Particular attention is paid to watering in the first weeks after transplantation. If the weather is dry, with daytime temperatures reaching +25…30 °C, watering must be done every 2-3 days.

If your strawberries are mulched, then a cup filled with soil is placed under each mustache, and the mustache is directed to it for further rooting. It should be secured with a wire hook or paper clip.
