Why do you need to sneeze?

Sneezing cannot be suppressed, as it is a natural way to cleanse the nasal cavity of mucus and other foreign particles. This was told by an otolaryngologist.

The doctor clarified that during sneezing, the nose is freed from mucus, which contains bacteria and viruses. Even if you think that sneezing right now is inappropriate, it is better to pinch your nose or close your mouth.

“In this case, you will still sneeze, but you will do it as if inside,” the doctor explained.

But attempts to prevent sneezing can lead to the development of ENT diseases. When you hold back a sneeze, pressure is created. It is directed inward, towards the nasopharynx, the posterior parts of the nasal cavity, the maxillary and frontal sinuses. It is in these parts that the mucus that was supposed to come out during the sneeze gets.

According to Elizarov, there is a risk of infection of the auditory tube or middle ear. In addition, this process can cause an increase in intracranial pressure. Therefore, it is better not to hold back a sneeze. It is enough to get a handkerchief in time or bring your elbow to your nose and sneeze there. This way you will not leave bacteria on your palms and infect others.
