If a spruce or pine tree grows on the site, then do not rush to throw away the cones. Not all summer residents know that the cones that these plants shed in large quantities can be used for good.
Mulch from cones
Mulching with cones helps increase the acidity of the soil, so not all plants will respond favorably to this procedure.
Mulching is suitable for coniferous crops, hydrangeas, northern berries, some vegetables and roses.
In some cases, ash is placed under the layer of cones to neutralize excessive acidity.
After winter, when the ground warms up, cones are poured in a layer of up to 10-15 cm under shrubs and trees and up to 5 cm under vegetable crops on beds.
Cones, which contain a large amount of resinous substances, are used as drainage to prevent plant roots from rotting.
Cones and needles are collected and burned to obtain ash, which scattered in the garden and orchard.
Cones are used in pest control. Whole and crushed cones are spread around beds, plots or gardens to protect plantings from slugs and snails.
Cones are most often used as drainage for flower pots.
