Vitamin E was discovered in 1922 and was originally taken for a substance that ensures the health of the reproductive system. However, this hypothesis was not confirmed, and since then scientists began to study the effect of this substance on the human body.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the fat-soluble vitamin is a powerful antioxidant that protects the body's cells from destructive exposure to things like cigarette smoke, air pollution, and ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Vitamin E strengthens the immune system, reduces inflammation, and helps prevent skin damage, keeping it healthy and youthful, according to the Linus Pauling Institute.
The vitamin can be bought in pharmacies, but you can replenish the reserves of this substance in the body at the expense of food. Some nuts, vegetables, fruits and seafood have a high content of vitamin E:
- sunflower seeds. Like other seeds and nuts, it also includes plant-based protein, fiber and healthy unsaturated fats;
- almonds. This nut, among other things, reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases by reducing the level of “bad” cholesterol in the blood.
- hazelnut. In addition to vitamin E, it also contains healthy fats, fiber and magnesium;
- avocado. Rich in heart-healthy fats, fiber, vitamin E and K, as well as potassium;
- spinach. This vegetable includes fiber, magnesium and vegetable iron;
- shrimp. Like many shellfish, they are a popular low-calorie, nutrient-dense food. Seafood is also known for high levels of vitamin B12, which supports healthy cell function;
- canned salmon. Also rich in vitamins B12 and D;
- red bell pepper. In addition to vitamin E, it is known for its high content of antioxidants;
- kiwi. These green fruits contain fiber, vitamin K and potassium;
- broccoli. It is almost always included in the lists of useful products, increases immunity, helps fight colds and destroys bacteria;
- olive oil. It is an excellent source of heart-healthy unsaturated fats;
- peanut butter. Contains unsaturated fats, protein and magnesium, reported by the Livestrong portal.
