10 signs that you are an active alcoholic

The term “active alcoholic” means , that a person with an alcohol addiction can still perform their daily tasks.

An active or functioning alcoholic cannot be noticed immediately. Many people suffering from alcoholism hide their condition extremely well – they can work, have a family, and from the outside they often seem quite prosperous. However, if a person suffers from a functional alcohol disorder, some signs indicating a problem will appear against his will.

These are the symptoms.

  • A person often smells of alcohol.< /li>
  • Control over the frequency and quantity of drinking weakens.
  • Alcohol hides in different places, often unusual and inappropriate.
  • Alcohol is drunkenly consumed after completing a difficult task, solving problems.
  • A person explains his drinking as the need to relax after work, a stressful day, or evaluates it as a reward for something good he has done.
  • In conditions when there is no opportunity to drink, he becomes irritable, anxious, restless, cannot sleep normally.
  • There is regular consumption of alcohol in the morning before the start of the working day, or in extracurricular hours, for example, at lunch (in this way, addicts reflexively avoid the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal).
  • A person always actively drinks at events and prefers ” load” already before visiting them.
  • A functioning alcoholic does not need a company to drink and get drunk, he can do it at home alone.
  • In a state of alcoholic intoxication, he can completely change his character: to become spontaneous and unpredictable, sloppy, aggressive.
  • Hardly remembers the events that took place in a state of heavy alcohol intoxication.

How to diagnose alcoholism on your own? To do this, you need to ask yourself questions and answer honestly.

  • When you drink, can you control the amount of alcohol you consume, and do you drink in moderation ?
  • If you want to quit or cut down on alcohol, will you be able to maintain that abstinence?

Answering “NO” to both of these questions means that the person has a disorder, related to alcohol consumption, which she cannot control.
