12 symptoms that appear exactly 1 month before a heart attack

Despite popular belief, the onset of a heart attack often comes unnoticed. People simply don't pay attention. A survey of more than 500 women revealed a number of ominous warning signs a month before the event.

In a survey of more than 500 women who had experienced a heart attack, 95 percent of them said they noticed something wrong about a month before their heart attack. The two most common early warning signs were fatigue (71 percent) and sleep disturbances (48 percent).

The list also included shortness of breath, weakness and fatigue, clammy sweat, dizziness, and nausea.

Overall, the 12 main symptoms that women reported in the month before included:

  • Unusual fatigue
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Confused breathing
  • Upset stomach
  • Anxiety
  • Heart palpitations
  • Weak/heavy arms
  • Changes in thinking or memory
  • Changes in vision
  • Loss of appetite
  • Tingling hands/arms
  • Trouble breathing at night

Some women may get early warning signs of an impending heart attack in the form of extreme fatigue, sleep disturbance, or shortness of breath.

Paying attention to these symptoms and getting prompt diagnosis and treatment can prevent a full-blown heart attack. Some men also have early warning signs, the most common being chest pain.
