A doctor has revealed three types of tea that contain biologically active ingredients that suppress fat.
Tea has long been known for its many health benefits, one of which may be fat loss.

Oolong tea— one of the most beneficial, it “contains a polysaccharide that inhibits the growth of fat cells by turning off their gene expression.” Studies show that Oolong tea improves metabolism when consumed weekly.
“Pu’er tea is a fermented black tea that contains a probiotic called pueribacillus, which improves gut health.”
Matchu tea contains EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate).
Studies have shown that matcha, well known for its bright green color, can counteract the metabolic effects of a high-fat diet, Dr. Kotelnitsky noted.
EGCG is a fat-suppressing bioactive compound that is found in matcha tea “137 times” more than in regular commercial green tea.
Three fat-fighting teas:
- Oolong tea
- Pu'er tea
- Match tea.
How to burn fat
The doctor emphasizes the importance of healthy weight loss, which is likely to increase the chances of keeping the new weight off in the long term.
To make sure you're losing weight safely, always consult your physician before starting a new diet or fitness regimen.
One pound of fat is equivalent to 3,500 calories; by reducing your calorie intake by 500 calories per day, you should lose about one pound per week.
“While it may not seem like much, if you eat an extra 100 calories a day, you could gain 11 pounds by the end of the year,” the doctor warns.
For those hoping to burn fat, here are some tips:
- Set small, realistic goals that will help you lose weight safely and are more likely to keep it off.
- Eat three regular, balanced meals a day.
- Try to eat at scheduled times.
- Only include snacks if you’re hungry.
For those who enjoy “high-calorie” coffees, such as lattes or mochas, it’s best to opt for a lower-calorie version, such as an Americano.
Healthy weight loss also depends on dietary portion sizes, some of which are listed below.
- Pasta and rice – two to three tablespoons
- Bread – one medium slice
- Cooked meat the size of a deck of cards.
- Hard cheese – the size of a matchbox.
- Beans or legumes – four tablespoons
People hoping to lose weight may find it helpful to eat from a smaller plate to reduce portion sizes.
