We all know the power of sleep for a person's overall health and mood. When your sleep is affected, it can do more than just ruin your mood for the day. Other potential problems include obesity, depression, decreased immune system function and decreased sex drive. What you drink before bed can greatly affect the quality of your sleep.

Fizzy Drinks

Drinking sodas before bed will greatly affect your sleep. Sodas contain caffeine and a lot of sugar. Caffeine can make it harder to fall asleep, and sugar can affect your ability to sleep.

One study found that people who consume a lot of sugar each day are more likely to wake up during the night.

Water

“Diuresis is lower at night than during the day in healthy young adults,” says the Sleep Education study. “It helps you not to wake up at night to go to the toilet. Drinking too much water in the evening can upset this balance. You should drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.”

Wine

Enjoying a glass or two of wine in the evening is a common practice among many, but as it is known, unfortunately, to harm your sleep. This is largely due to the disruption of the circadian rhythm.

Although a person can fall asleep quickly after drinking alcohol, they also often wake up in the middle of the night. Alcohol interferes with the normal production of chemicals in the body that cause drowsiness when you stay awake for a long time and disappear as soon as you sleep.
